THE LEGENDARY LEE MILLER
Antony Penrose – Lee’s Son and Biographer
4.30pm Monday 18th August
Born in New York in 1907 Lee Miller had many
extraordinary lives morphing from a young
surrealist artist to a top fashion model, to Vogue
fashion photographer, to WW2 war photo-journalist
and !nally, a gourmet cook. She was the artistic
collaborator and lover of the well-known surrealist
photographer Man Ray and later married British
Surrealist artist Roland Penrose. They made a
family home at Farley Farm, East Sussex, where
Pablo Picasso visited and was an artistic haven for
some of the most influential creatives of the 20th
Century. Antony Penrose, Lee's son, has lectured
at universities and museums all over the world and
written several books, one of which ‘The Lives of
Lee Miller’ was recently made into a !lm titled 'LEE'
starring Kate Winslet. Antony will be using many of
Lee Miller’s own images to give us a lasting portrait
of this talented, trailblazing and courageous woman.
‘FOUL MURDER’
Peter Blood
4.30pm
Friday 22nd August
Retired
Barrister,
Peter
Blood is returning by popular
demand to walk us through
the build up to one of the 20th
Century’s most fascinating and
controversial murder trials. He
will take us through the trial
itself up to the point where the jury retire to consider
their verdict. At this point, the audience will also retire
to deliberate on their verdict over a glass of wine. We
will then reconvene to hear Peter explain what actually
happened together with the jury’s verdict and why the
trial continues to fascinate to this day.
Colin Tebbutt has a wealth of fascinating anecdotes
and insights as a Royal Protection Of!
f cer and security
advisor, having worked for Princess Diana, Princess
Alexandra, Princess Anne, Princess Michael of Kent
and latterly, Sarah Duchess of York, with whom he
worked for 18 years until his retirement. He has many
poignant memories of his time with the royal family,
but one of them that will stay with him forever is being
called in the middle of the night to be told of Princess
Diana’s shocking death in a car accident and asked to
fly to Paris immediately and eventually accompany her
body back to the UK. He will share this moment with
us together with many more fascinating inside stories
of his life as a Protection Of!
f cer with the royal family.
THE LIFE &
LOVES OF
PATTIE BOYD
4.30pm
Saturday 23rd August
Pattie Boyd was one
of the famous leading
models of the 1960’s and married George Harrison in
1966 at the height of The Beatles popularity. However,
causing a stir at the time, she divorced George to marry
his friend, another famous musician Eric Clapton in
1977. Pattie inspired several famous songs written by
both Harrison and Clapton such as Layla, Wonderful
Tonight and I Need You, to name but a few. However,
she divorced Eric Clapton in 1989 and has since
remarried. Pattie’s subsequent gripping and bestselling autobiography ‘Wonderful Today’ has since
topped the New York Times Best Seller list. She is now
an accomplished photographer in her own right having
started by taking photographs of musicians during the
60’s to more recently staging numerous exhibitions
of her work. Pattie certainly has a tale or two to tell
and will keep us riveted, together with some very
interesting slides, past & present.
